CROP CONSULTING SERVICES

Crop Quest agronomists custom design agronomic service programs for each customer. We offer programs for irrigated and dryland farmers. Our crop consultants contract with producers on a per acre basis. Rates vary depending on the crop to be checked, location, acreage, etc. Below is a listing of the agronomic services our staff offers.

CROP MONITORING

More Than Just Crop Scouting

Our crop scouting services are part of the crop consulting package. We work with farms throughout the entire growing cycle. Not just while the crop is in the ground, but also during the crop planning stages. This gives you and the crop consultant the advantage of knowing the entire life cycle of the field. Thus making it simpler to predict and respond to issues before the seed is even in the ground.

The benefits don’t stop at pests though. By integrating precision ag tools directly into our crop scouting services we optimize their use. For example, crop health imagery is excellent for seeing issues before they are visible to the naked eye. By monitoring the imagery our consultants get a head start on resolving the problems. In addition, some issues target zones within the field. In this case, on-demand variable rate prescriptions can save time and money.

Regular field checks remain an important part of our crop scouting services. Yes, sensors and technology do have their place. But boots on the ground still provide the quickest way to get the most complete field overview.

Soil Sampling

Our professional agronomists are trained in the latest soil sampling techniques. Consistent soil sampling is the key to getting accurate soil test results. Crop Quest takes soil samples for clients under contract and provides custom soil sampling services for non-contract clients.

Fertlizer Recommendations

Our agronomists sell no products and make unbiased fertilizer recommendations, based on certified laboratory analysis of each sample. Recommendations take into consideration yield goal, carryover fertilizer levels, and other variables.

Crop Scouting

Much more than just a scout. Our crop consultants practice integrated pest management. We monitor the overall health and progress of the crop using traditional methods enhanced with precision ag technology. Regular field checks help minimize risk and control issues before they become a problem.

Irrigation Scheduling

Our farm consultants monitor soil moisture across irrigated fields during each regular field check.  We routinely evaluate the soil moisture levels using penetrometers, soil probes and soil moisture sensors. Coupled with information about the soil texture, crop water use models, and weather forecasts we strive to improve a client’s irrigation efficiency.

Ag-Chemical Recommendations

When weed, insect or disease problems are found in a client’s field, the Crop Quest staff recommends the best products and rates for control and when and where the products should be applied. We sell no products, so clients can be assured they are getting unbiased recommendations.

Equipment Calibration

As part of our full service program, our ag consultants help clients calibrate and adjust sprayers, chemigation systems, planters and other equipment. In addition, many times our crop consultants have experience working with displays and monitors. We try to make it easy to use variable rate technology. So, while we aren’t equipment experts, we do have knowledgeable consultants and precision ag specialist willing to help.

Detailed Field Reports

After each regular field check, our agronomists generate a detailed field report for the client. Each report contains weed, insect and disease scouting results, maps highlighting field conditions, irrigation scheduling information and ag-chemical recommendations.

Seed Variety Recommendations

Each year, our staff meets with representatives from seed companies to discuss new hybrids or varieties. In addition, our agronomists constantly exchange yield data with each other across the company, evaluating performance and noting problems. With this information in hand, our staff can recommend the best variety for each client’s field.

Crop Rotation Planning

Crop Quest helps clients plan crop rotation patterns taking into account herbicide use, crop prices, weed problems and other variables.

Crop Budgets

As part of our full service program, our staff generates crop budgets upon request. The budgets take into account fixed and variable costs, with a breakdown on crop inputs. Each budget projects a potential net and gross profit, with break even yield data.
